“Keeping the current situation unchanged will definitely guarantee a catastrophe with the pensions in the future,” Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister for Demographic and Social Policies and Minister of Labour and Social Policy Ivaylo Kalfin said speaking at parliament during the presentation of the amendments to the Social Insurance Code on first reading, FOCUS News Agency reporter said.
He stressed that no reform had been made for many years because the needed changes were unpleasant for the voters.
“We speak about a system that is not political. What is important is for the pension system to be stable and sustainable,” Mr Kalfin remarked.
The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that the proposed amendments were a result of intensive talks and consultations.
He also stressed that the proposed package was backed by the social partners.
